The industry association Bitkom explains on 83 pages in its guide that you can’t miss the Metaverse – it’s going to be big. And colorful. The same digital industry that has struggled for decades with basic IT and security issues in the 2D computing world and is already at its limit in terms of staff, thinks it’s safe: in ten years we will be walking into 3D AR VR worlds. And there is then made in 3D and especially diligently consumed.
The Bitkom Document is entertaining holiday reading because everything that makes a good story comes together: fear, greed, big money, and an even greater loss of reality. Like Dallas, only with digital stuff instead of oil. The Bitkom copywriters write openly about the blessings of the platform economy and its further development thanks to NFTs, as if it were something worth striving for – as if they have suppressed that its reputation has suffered greatly.
Bitkom singles out Adidas as one of the examples of NFT success from Germany. They sell virtual sneakers for their own 3D avatar to customers who already have everything else. It is only logical that Adidas is working on digital trinkets, given that the group’s business model has been for decades to have synthetic slippers made in Asia for a few cents and then sold. for sale to fans and enthusiasts with thick margins. And only one product is even cheaper than the cheapest textile from the Far East: almost free in production and development, because all cloneable sneakers are NFTs.
The Metaverse ideas are about more than windy NFT deals. We’ve summarized for you what the ideas consist of and what you can try out today. What Bitkom still has to learn: Before you can divide the fur of the bear, you must first kill it. There is still a long way to go to a cross-platform 3D VR monetized world – with many problems coming from the 2D computing world.
