Bill and Cathy Cambridge Unveil Their Portrait at The Fitzwilliam Museum

Duchess Kate and Prince William visited the Fitzwilliam Museum to unveil their new official portrait. We are, we have to admit, a little puzzled by her style choices for the occasion.

It’s such a flimsy, unphotogenic dress, which is surprising, because she tends to dress for pictures and wear much more structured garments when she does so. We also tend to think that dusty pale blue is not the best color for her, even though she can wear pretty much any color. It just feels surprisingly drab to us. At the very least, it could’ve used a belt.

First official portrait of TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, by Jamie Coreth, unveiled at The Fitzwilliam Museum
Fine Art Commissions is proud to announce the unveiling of a new portrait of TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, by Jamie Coreth.

Commissioned by the Cambridgeshire Royal Portrait Fund, held by the Cambridge Community Foundation, as a gift to Cambridgeshire, this is the first official portrait of the royal couple.

Members of the public will be able to view the portrait at the University of Cambridge’s Fitzwilliam Museum for an initial period of three years, after which the artwork will be exhibited in other community spaces and galleries around Cambridgeshire.

It’s fine, we suppose. Art critiques aren’t really our bag around here, but it’s a classic portrait style, which means they come off recognizable but slightly idealized. Girlfriend rarely wears that much rich color at one time anymore, he almost never looks that impeccably suited in public, and we do not think in 12 years of covering them we’ve ever seen them engage in that much bodily contact. It’s interesting to us that she chose a The Vampire’s Wife dress for this portrait. The brand’s got a little edge to it and she usually plays everything so safe for the more official stuff.
