In addition to the world-famous crypto investor and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, more and more well-known personalities in the US are committed to crypto currencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum (hardware wallet from 59 euros at Amazon). However, a particularly dramatic commercial with a well-paid actor last Sunday caused a strong headwind and also some laughter.
None other than Matt Damon plays the leading role in the commercial for crypto exchange Crypto.com, which is active in many countries. In the video below, the Bourne franchise and “The Martian” actor can be seen leisurely strolling through a fictional space station as he explains that there have been many endeavors in human history that would come close to success led.
The first explorers from colonial times are shown, who ultimately failed with their project. Subsequently, for contrast, a mountain climber, one of the Wright brothers and a group of astronauts are mentioned, among others, who were crowned with success thanks to their efforts. The underlying motto, originally from Latin: “Fortune favors the brave” – or in German – “Fortune favors the brave”. When it comes to investing in cryptocurrencies, many viewers probably interpreted the commercial to mean that someone who doesn’t invest in crypto wouldn’t be brave or successful.
Considering cryptos like Ethereum and Bitcoin have plummeted in recent months, this is a pretty bold claim, especially coming from a multimillionaire who wouldn’t mind losing a few million dollars on risky crypto investments. Since then, numerous malicious messages have been posted on Twitter mocking the actor’s advertising efforts. For crypto critics, the commercial, which was shown several times during the breaks in the highly rated NFL games on American television, was a hit.
